About Me
I have been teaching singing for over thirty years. I have taught private lessons in my home studio in Gainesville, Florida for over twenty-five years. I have also taught students and classes at the University of Florida, Utah State University and the University of Michigan.
I have my doctoral degree in voice performance from the University of Michigan (1995), as well as my undergraduate and master’s degrees in voice performance from Boston University (1984, 1987). I have also studied and sung in Italy and France.
Although for 3 decades my studies and performances were of classical song and opera, I have always loved all styles of music and over the years I have performed in musicals and jazz concerts. Because I am always eager to learn more about singing and musical styles, in recent years I have played keyboards and sung in a couple of rock bands. I am currently a singer in the Gainesville cover band: The Storeys. In my spare time, I am writing and learning to record popular songs, becoming a better guitar and piano player, and I recently started learning to play drums. My goal for my 70s is to master jazz piano to sing and play jazz in small venues. I therefore work with students on any style of music that interests them: musical theater, classical, jazz, blues, popular, rock, R&B, country, blue grass, etc. I am trained to sing in six languages, and I am always enthusiastic to learn new ones I don’t know, if that is what a student is interested in. I teach students of all ages and singers who are at beginning or professional levels.
I also teach:
Beginning guitar and keyboard (for players of popular music)
Music theory and sight reading
Performance readiness, song interpretation, stage movement, acting for singing and assistance with performance anxiety
Vocal care and improvement for speaking (teachers, business professionals, etc.)
Pronunciation and diction in the languages of English, Italian, French, German, Spanish and Latin
I am also available to teach group sessions, masterclasses or online lessons.
My studio is set up with microphones and basic recording equipment for those singers who wish to learn microphone technique and record their singing.
I hold twice per year recitals for students who wish to perform in front of a live audience.
